Rainbow birthday party

Happy Birthday Seven

IMG_4880.jpeg

The last quarter of the year is such a busy time for me with all kids birthday every 4 weeks, my birthday, yearly family trip to hawaii and all the holidays in between , I also host almost every holiday so there is something happening almost every weekend at Casa Stirdivant. So when it was time for Sevens birthday I knew the date I wanted to throw it, but had yet to pick a theme 10 days before the party. My friend Cass (@get.doughd on instagram) came over to help me plan the entire thing, I just love how much she loves party planning as much as I do and she just takes the theme and runs with it sending all the best ideas, its rare to find a friend like her . We picked a Rainbow Theme because Seven was my rainbow baby. I decided to do muted colors to match her bedroom.

We found some yarn on sale and just yarned the entire birthday party up.

The cake… I find that the cake always gets forgotten about because the other desserts are easier to grab, so i no longer spend a fortune on the cake, now if it was my husbands birthday or my birthday I would definitely get a Susie’s Cake.

How I order the cake: So the last few birthdays I have been purchasing the kids cakes from my local Vons, they taste pretty good and its only $20, that way if it doesn’t get eaten I won’t feel that bad about it. I always get it frosted with buttercream, plain, smooth frosting nothing on it, you have to tell them, no boarders then I let them know I am going to add cake toppers myself.

Rainbow Cake Topper: Cass and I wanted to make rainbows out of yarn, we were going to make them using rope but when she went to hobby lobby, furniture piping was on sale so she figured we could use that instead. So we wrapped the yarn in different orders of color around the furniture piping and used that as a cake topper and also made some rainbows to decorate around the house.

Sugar Cookies: Cass and I were friends for about a year before I found out she she was a cookie master, I stocked her instagram and scrolled down so many years and found she was an amazing cookie decorator haha, one day I asked her if she could help me with these cookies I wanted to make for Kevens open house, not realizing she was an expert, looking back that was so embarrassing my cookies were horrible, so I leave the cookie decorating to her. She started a company called @get.doughd shortly after and now she is booked for months to come. These are the amazing cookies she came up with for Sevens birthday.

Other Desserts:

I also purchased 2 dozen cupcakes and made my own cupcake toppers, I got a toothpick and hot glued tassels to the end of it. I do not have close up but you can see them in the picture above.

We also had marshmallows in the push up container, I originally had it mixed with pink cotton candy but the cotton can melted over night so we had to ditch that idea. then of course the s’mores station. We had way more desserts than we needed.

Set Up for Dessert Table

Balloon Garland: I learned with the last party do not buy cheap balloons or else they will start popping, we picked the balloon colors together and order it from amazon. We put the ballot garland together using a fishing wire, if you need a tutorial I made one last year, click here.

I brought out the curtain from my play room and used it as a backdrop, on the left side we added the balloons and on the right side we threw a bunch of different sized yarn in a few different shade and added a yarned rainbow directly to the middle. Layered the ground with a few rugs that I already had in my house, and instead of putting the dessert on a big table like I normally do, I put the desserts on a bunch of side tables & a bench and I love the look so much! added a cute little TP that we had downstairs & stuck the yarned letters straight up so you could read them from across the yard. This probably is my favorite set up I have done so far. But I say that after every party so the next one will probably be my favorite too.

Cass and I after working really hard to make this birthday party come to life. We made everything for this party ourself so it was a lot of work squeezed into 10 days haha and baby Sev had the best time so that is all that matters.

DIY stations:

One thing I love to do at parties are DIY stations making fun little areas that kids can be creative, We had a cookie DIY station but by the time we got to taking a photo all the cookies were pretty much gone.

S’mores Station

With a cute little basket I just added some marshmallows, chocolate, graham crackers , and marshmallow sticks and let the kids roast them up with their parents at our fire pit.

Ket Chain Station

I wanted them to be able to make a cute little kid key chain to go, I bought some beads from amazon, piping cleaner, and a yard of tassels from hobby lobby.

Coloring Station

We had these foam unicorn stickers that you were able to color, put a basket of crayons, I printed some rainbow pictures, & we had a roll of paper that the kids could got crazy on. It worked everyone made something.

A-Frame Play House.

I know I am going to get asked this a lot because I have gotten a few quite a few DM’s about it already. With my contractor I designed how I wanted it to look, because we just purchased an A-Frame in Lake Arrowhead, I thought it would be an appropriate style. But because it is an A-Frame you don’t get a lot of room inside to play, so I wanted to make sure your could pull the side up, I had him build it the same way I custom made my windows for my kitchen and I love the way it turned out, it is not finished yet. I am going to add a cute kitchen inside with wall paper and also paint the outside, and add a pebble right outside of the opening.

Like I mentioned before We yarned everything up, I purchased these cardboard letters from Hobby Lobby on sale of course, and just started wrapping it with yarn, if you do decide to do this make sure you have a hot glue gun to make the yarn stay in place, especially on those corners.

The F O O D

I wanted something Kid friendly and the kids really wanted pizza so I found a way to make pizza work, and most importantly make it look cute, I rolled out some brown parchment paper, and laid out the pizza, bread sticks, meats, cheeses, crackers & extra toppings etc directly on the table making it look extra beautiful.

OUTSIDE

because we throw parties all the time we have everything for it, we laid out some tables brought out our dinning chairs, added a bunch of umbrellas and had a lot of seat for everyone, on the lower level of the backyard I was going to get a bounce house but realized Seven hated them when I brought her to a bounce house on her actual birthday so I scratched that idea and just created little play areas.

I purchased a ball pit from amazon that is collapsible so I could tuck it away in our attic, I also purchased soft foam blocks from amazon that the kids can crawl all over, I put all of Sevens wood blocks and toys inside the bell tent so the littles could play in there, and let the play house also be something they could play with, then surrounded this area with all the DIY stations, and blankets and umbrellas for families to relax in. The big kids were in our trampoline and skating on our side yard so they also had that to entertain themselves.

Oh I also made these cute rainbows out of pool noodles and had them surround our yard so kids would not go past it into the golf course, I installed these rainbows with long BBQ sticks out of all things lol.
